September Update
Hello Magical Humans!
Well, we made it through eclipse season in one piece (hopefully) and now we’ve landed in the orderly, grounded embrace of Virgo season. I don’t even have any planets in Virgo, but wow, do I resonate with this time of year. It gives me a sense that somebody is in charge somewhere in a pristine, plant-filled, secluded sanctuary dotting all of the i’s and crossing all of the t’s on behalf of the rest of us. And that feels reeeeeally good after the chaotic energy of the eclipses.
Virgo is excellent at spotting all of the little details and connecting the dots. And this is my happy little segue into what I really want to talk about: synchronicities and signs.
It also feels like the perfect homage to the nodal axis that closed out after the lunar eclipse on August 27th: North Node in Pisces, South Node in Virgo. To me, this pairing is such a beautiful combination: Pisces’ faith in something beyond what we can see, coupled with Virgo’s super-tracker senses.
Pisces says, “Trust me, there is something more.”
Virgo says, “Oh, look! Here’s the evidence.”
Together, they guide us to notice the breadcrumbs left by the universe:the little signs, coincidences, nudges, and seemingly random moments that somehow lead us back to our wholeness.
Side note: Only Virgo would have such neatly spaced out crumbs ;-).
Let’s talk signs and synchronicities!
These can show up in all kinds of ways. My first proper foray into the world of signs was the book Signs: The Secret Language of the Universe by Laura Lynne Jackson. And, as it turns out, there was even a sign waiting for me within the pages of the book itself. I’m going to share it with you because it completely blew my mind.
In Chapter 16, Jackson, who is a psychic medium, tells the story of sitting in her hairdresser’s chair when she received a strong message for him from the other side. His grandfather, Hernan, kept coming through and showing her a pocketknife.
The hairdresser called his mother in Costa Rica to ask if a pocketknife meant anything to her. She was stunned. Before Hernan died, he had given a pocketknife to one of his sons, the hairdresser’s uncle. His uncle had been carrying guilt over Hernan’s death ever since. The pocketknife was Hernan’s way of letting his son know that there was nothing he could have done to save him, and that he could finally release that burden.
There is more to the story, but I’ll let you enjoy the book yourself if you choose to.
Now, want to hear where it got really personal for me?
By the time I read this book, my own father had crossed over five years earlier.
My father’s name was Hernan.
He was born in Costa Rica. So was I.
And he carried a Swiss Army pocketknife in a little pouch on his belt every single day.
I mean, every day.
In fact, that pocketknife once completely saved the day when my one-week-old daughter had a massive blowout on a fancy hotel bed (not ours, oopsie!). My dad whipped out his trusty knife, pulled out the teeny-tiny scissors, and cut the entire bottom off her soiled onesie.
Problem solved.
That’s actually very Virgo, now that I think about it.
That’s probably my most jaw-dropping synchronicity experience, but I’ve had so many over the years, all since I started paying attention to them.
Sometimes they’re incredibly simple. I’ll pick up my phone or open my laptop at exactly the moment 1:11, 2:22, 3:33 (and so on) appears on the screen. This usually happens at least three times on any given day.
Other times, I’ll randomly stumble upon a piece of information and feel compelled to share it with someone, only to find out it was exactly what they needed to hear. And I’m regularly on the receiving end of this little loop myself.
Animals are another big one for me. Sometimes a particular animal will suddenly start appearing everywhere, either in real life or symbolically, and I’ve learned to pay attention when that happens. I love looking into the symbolism associated with different animals and considering what that particular little messenger might be inviting me to notice.
I love pulling oracle cards, and so often the card that jumps out is exactly the answer or encouragement I needed in that moment.
Sometimes the perfect song comes up on my Spotify playlist at exactly the right time. Multiple times, it hasn’t even been a song on my playlist. It was something Spotify randomly decided to play for me.
Coincidence? Maybe.
But I think that’s part of the fun of synchronicity. You don’t necessarily have to prove where it came from to notice that something meaningful just happened.
Maybe that’s the real magic formula of signs and synchronicities. Pisces reminds us to trust that there may be more happening than what we can see, while Virgo reminds us to pay attention to what’s right in front of us. We don’t have to understand exactly how it all works. We just have to be willing to notice the breadcrumbs.
I could go on and on, but I’d much rather hear about yours. What are the signs, synchronicities, strange coincidences, repeating numbers, songs, messages, or little cosmic breadcrumbs that have stopped you in your tracks?
Because if there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the more we start paying attention, the more there is to notice.
