July Update

Hello Magical Humans,

Happy 4th of July!!  Funny story: I thought yesterday was the 4th and I wished my son, who is away at camp a Happy 4th!  He (gotta love him) patiently absolved me of the fact that I was actually a whole day off. You see, I am an Aquarius Sun, and my concept of time is at best nebulous, and at worst, well, I have been known to drive to a dinner with friends on entirely the wrong day ... twice.

I am sharing my Aquarian lens because in a few days time, Uranus, the planet that rules Aquarius* will move into Gemini. Uranus likes to reform things. It's a bit of a rebel, and it loves surprises. It has been in Taurus since May 2018, and quite frankly, Taurus does not love surprises. At all. Hates them actually. So, Uranus showed up uninvited to Taurus' beautifully curated dinner party for the last 7 years with an unexpected appetizer and wearing something that did not fit the dress code.

… and asked us all:

Uranus: "How can you get out of your comfort zone?"

Taurus: "Ugh"

Uranus: "How can you see your self worth in a new way?"

Taurus: "I'm going to need a good snack before I do this and I'm not even going to think about trying that appetizer you brought"

Uranus: "Are you ready to look at money and possessions in a new way?"

Taurus: "OOOh! I love money and all of my special belongings. I will look at those but instead of saying it's a new way can, you let me think it's my own idea?

Uranus is going to be making a brief appearance at Gemini's party from July 7 until November 7 (can we just admire the  glorious numerology of 7/7 and 11/7?) before it moves in as a houseguest for 7 years starting April of next year.  Now, Gemini LOVES a party and it loves surprises.  Uranus is not only going to bring a weird appetizer but it might also bring some uppers (Just kidding. Maybe). Gemini is a very fast moving, mentally focussed sign. It deals in information- the collection and dissemination of it. The next 7 years will bring rapid innovation, freedom, disclosure, and reform to the way that we communicate. Wherever Uranus shows up, expect the unexpected.

How we communicate and process information will be getting an upgrade, and that will be an enormous gift. At the same time, our thought patterns are deeply ingrained and it will feel uncomfortable.  Wherever thoughts are involved and questions about the future pop up, we open the door for anxiety. Many of you are likely already feeling the buildup to this transit, and likely witnessing it in children, who are naturally more sensitive to energy.  Whatever you can do to ease your own worry wheel, it will serve not just yourself but the children in your life. I will share some tools for this upgrade below.

Self Care for Uranus in Gemini:

  • Movement: have a regular practice for moving your energy, especially anything that requires your focus so that your mind can't be whirling.

  • Creativity: creative activities always feel good because they connect us to our essence. They also occupy the mind so it can't doom scroll on its own curated fear channel.

  • Somatic Experiencing: Get into your body. This is something we were supported with during Uranus' time in Taurus. Step barefoot on the grass, or put your back against a tree. Notice: 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, 1 thing you can taste. In the coming weeks I will be recording a tool that you can listen to with a guided somatic practice.

  • Variety: actively choose change and variety. Take new routes to the places you frequent, brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand, try new foods, mix up your routine, do something out of your comfort zone each day. As you expand your comfort zone, anxiety will naturally diminish and your mind will have templates for a multitude of experiences.  That is all it is looking for: reassurance that you did this new thing and you survived, therefore it is safe.

  • Journal: Get your thoughts and worries out on paper, then go back and ask "Is this true? Can I absolutely know that it's true?" I highly recommend Byron Katie's Loving What Is.

I will give you a heads up when we get to November, but Uranus will retrograde back into Taurus for 5 months and that will be a time to check in and see if you incorporated the lessons of Uranus in Taurus: reformation of what and who you value and how you value yourself.

To further support you in soothing your nervous system, I am sharing a mini sound bath I created (look at me trying new things ). It includes ocean waves from Vancouver Island that my mom recorded, chimes, singing bowls, and I added in whale sounds because they are my spirit animal .

I hope you have a joyful long weekend with the ones you love the most.

Sending Love,

PS.

* Aquarius is co-ruled by its original ruler, Saturn, from ye olden times when we didn't even know Uranus was out there (like I said, Uranus likes a surprise entrance).  Saturn also rules Capricorn, because it is super efficient and responsible, and it relishes a big job like managing two signs .
